Rhode Island Brown Bread
Ingredients:
2½ cups corn meal
1½ cups rye meal
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 quart of milk
Directions:
- Make bread from two and one-half cups of
corn meal, one and one-half cups of rye meal, one egg, one cup of molasses,
two teaspoons of cream of tartar, one teaspoon of soda, a little salt and
one quart of milk.
- Bake in a covered dish, either earthen or iron, in a
moderately hot oven for about 2½ to 3 hours or until done.
