Washington Chocolate Cake
|
Ingredients for Cake:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
5 egg yolks
1 cup milk
2 egg whites
3½ cups flour, sifted
2½
teaspoons baking powder
Filling:
2 cups sugar
3 egg whites
1
cup grated
chocolate
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
To Prepare Mixture for
Cake:
- Mix
1 cup of butter and 2 cups of sugar until mixture is creamy.
- Beat in
gradually
yolks of five eggs. Then stir into that mixture 1 cup of milk.
- Beat the
whites of two eggs to a stiff froth and add that to the mixture.
- Gradually
put in flour sifted
with
baking powder and bake in jelly-cake
tins.
To Prepare
Mixture for
Filling:
- Boil
two cups of sugar (it should be boiled to almost candy) until it
becomes
stringy or almost brittle.
- Take the
remaining three egg whites and beat
them very stiff, than take sugar hot from the fire and pour it over
beaten
egg whites very slowly.
- Than
beating quite fast; add 1 cup of grated
chocolate,
and vanilla extract. Stir it all and than cool.
- When
filling is cool, spread
between each cake and over the top and sides. Cover and refrigerate for
at least 3 hours before serving.
