For perfectly cooked brown rice every time, follow package directions or our method for cooking rice:
Method 1 - Cooking Brown Rice
Ingredients:
1 cup uncooked brown rice
2 to 2½ cups of liquid
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional)
Directions:
- In a 2 or 3 quart saucepan, combine 1 cup cleaned and washed uncooked brown rice, water or some other liquid of your choice.
- Add salt and butter (if using) and heat to boiling;
stir, reduce heat, cover and let it simmer for about 45 to 50 minutes
or until done.
- Fluff with fork and serve.
Note: If liquid is not absorbed, remove cover and cook 2 to 3 minutes longer.
TIPS: Liquids other than water can be used to cook rice to add
extra flavor. You can use: chicken or beef stock, vegetable broth,
bouillon, vegetable juices, fruit juices or combination of any liquid
diluted with water.
For all precooked rice, flavored or seasoned mixes with rice or special
dishes made with rice, you should follow package directions.
Any leftover cooked rice should be cooled quickly and then covered to prevent drying out or absorption of smells and flavors from other foods.
